When was the last time you checked out your website? Has it been 3 months, 3 years? If it’s been awhile, it is likely time to log into the back end! Whether you offer products or services, when a potential client visits your website, they may getting their first impression of you and your business. Keeping your website updated and working properly is super important for both your client’s experience and your business growth. And it doesn’t hurt that Google will be happy with your updated, fresh content!

So, what are we looking for?
1. On Brand
Have you had any shifts in your offerings, either products or services? Maybe updated your logo? Are your team photos outdated? These are the details you will want to focus on as you check the overall look and feel of your site. Does it match where you currently are in your business? If not, take time to refresh your images (don’t forget your alt text!) and update your copy. Double check those colors and fonts too.
2. Click the Links
Click on all the links. Make sure nothing is broken and the links are taking visitors where you want them to go. If you have links within your site to anything off your site, make sure it is still a valid, valuable resource. Additionally, make sure it opens in a new tab. This makes it easy for visitors to your site to navigate back to the page they were on if they choose. Ya know, that book a consultation page. Also, you don’t want visitors to click your link and go to an external site with no clear, mostly easy, way back.
3. Contact Us
Have there been any changes to how people get in touch with you? Is your business address the same? These may seem obvious, but it can be easy to forget to update these changes on a website.
While you’re there, review the process you have in place for interested buyers to call, email or schedule a meeting with you or someone in your business. Is your preferred contact method prominently displayed on every page of your site, not just your contact page? If not, consider adding a top bar with clickable buttons to make it so easy for people who are interested in your products or services to get in touch. You can add this same information in the footer of your site as well

4. The View
Does your website design excite you? Do you love how it looks? If not, you can make simple design and style changes to align more with the look and feel you are after. Something like adding some movement to your text boxes, adding hover color to your buttons or adding scroll effects to your images can really liven your site up.
As you make changes, it is important to check how your website looks when viewed on any device. It may look fantastic on a desktop, but not so much on a phone. And we all know most people are viewing just about everything on their phones. You can check both the desktop view, tablet view and mobile view on most website platforms. If anything looks out of place in one of the views, you should be able to adjust accordingly.
5. Take Action
Ask yourself what you want someone who visits your site to do when they land on your home page? I mean obviously we want them as customers or clients, right? But how do we get them there? Maybe they are really interested in what you have to offer, but aren’t quite ready to commit. Enter the power of an email list.
Whether you are just starting out or just wanting to grow your list, offering a lead magnet (aka freebie) will help get you there. Make sure you have a sign up form on your site. Create a lead magnet (aka freebie) to share with visitors in exchange for their email address. They get a free, valuable resource from you and you get them on your list. They will receive emails from you with all the insight, expertise and updates about your offerings right to their inbox. This is a great way to stay in touch with, and top of mind with, your potential or current customers and clients.
Bonus Tip ~ Create an automated Welcome Sequence for new subscribers. They joined your list, so they are definitely interested. Use this opportunity to learn more about what they need and share more about your business and what you have to offer.
Remember, keeping your website fresh and up to date not only looks better to your site visitors, but it makes for a better user experience, can help you market to your target audience, increase traffic to your site and grow your business
